About us

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) exists to promote the beauty, tranquillity and diversity of rural England by encouraging the sustainable use of land and other natural resources in town and country.  It has 59,000 supporters, a branch in every county, eight regional groups, over 200 local groups and a national office in London.

The Suffolk Preservation Society (established in 1929) is the county branch.  If you join the CPRE directly you are automatically a member of the SPS.

The SPS and its affiliates are registered charities that

bullet work to conserve our local heritage.  With a small professional staff and a network of active volunteers we monitor land use planning.  We encourage appropriate new building design in the county and have won an award for our book.
bullet provide detailed and researched information for the public, and for consultation exercises
bullet Works with the Suffolk Buildings Preservation Trust and the Suffolk Architectural Heritage Trust.  Pakenham Water Mill is an example.
