Waveney District

Within the Waveney district is a wealth of typical Suffolk houses, farms and agricultural buildings dating, in some cases, as far back as the 13th Century. They range from the humble to the grandeur of Somerleyton Hall. There are also ecclesiastical buildings, great and small, which with the houses trace the history and wealth of the local economy in the past. This is the Church tower in Beccles.

The countryside, and these buildings, are under perpetual threat from development. It is a role of the branch, along with society more generally, to be vigilant and challenge these threats. Where modern developments reflect and enhance their neighbourhood, we support them. But we wish to pass on to future generations the richness of buildings and countryside of which we can be proud.
